App Onboarding Demo
Problem
5 Minute Mental Health 1.0 launched quickly with a foundation on open-source code and templates. Little attention went to user experience or branding while it remained closely tied to the mental health agency. The registration process used an out-of-date WordPress cart experience. Additionally, the app had performance issues, such as stalling videos and no option for offline content. The only product offered was an all-access service plan, limiting access for users seeking more affordable options like a free version while they may need more time to be ready to purchase.
solution
I lead the development of new branding and product experience to set it up as a standalone company featuring fresh fonts, colors, and custom illustrations. The registration process requires only email and billing info, and the app offers a smoother onboarding experience. Tagging videos appropriately allows for personalized learning paths, ensuring easy access to relevant content. We increased perceived value across all tiers while enabling access by positioning the Unlimited Plan as the flagship product and adding affordable options like Month to Month and Free Limited.
value delivered
The rebranding added vibrancy and hopeful tones, moving away from imagery focused on despair or distress. The updated visuals and cohesive guidelines empower the internal team to create on-brand content consistently. The new, conversion-focused web page prioritizes sign-ups for the flagship Unlimited service while giving the option of a more accessible, low-cost 5 Minute Mental Health resource. Separating the brand from the agency allows outside therapists to recommend the app to their clients without the perception of referring them to another counseling center.
About 5-Minute Mental Health
The founder of a mental health agency realized that clients and newly hired therapists lacked skills training between sessions. Clients frequently returned feeling overwhelmed and repeating the same concerns. To address this, he envisioned a video-based learning tool as a resource for clients and a teaching aid for therapists.
Collaborating with his team, they created evidence-based scripts focusing on anxiety, depression, relationships, addiction, and mindfulness. The result was animated instructional videos designed to help clients build skills between sessions, leading to the launch of a mobile app and plans for larger-scale service expansion.
SCOPE OF WORK
I began by collaborating with the founder, therapist writers, and an offshore development team and interviewing some existing users. My project timeline included vital stakeholders and deliverables for a scalable brand and product. The focus was to deliver cohesive UI designs, branding materials, and lightweight digital experiences with the mental health client’s needs at the forefront. Every aspect of the workflow focused on providing accessible, empathetic support for product users.
branding
The brand identity centers around empathy while encouraging positive change. I produced the visual and verbal tone to establish 5-Minute Mental Health as the teacher who guides users toward self-improvement without judgment.
COLOR & TYPOGRAPHY
The color palette is vibrant, reflecting the stimulation of a lit-up brain. Each color represents a positive mood, with clean background colors subtly separating sections on the website. The palette is balanced by dark navy blue and teal primary colors, with dark typography for readability. The font choices are sans-serif for headings, subheadings, and body text, keeping the experience modern and accessible.
